C. JeNeane's Story

Hello - I never know what to write about myself, but here goes... After high school I went to college for one semester at Fullerton CC then started working on the Marine Corps LTA base in Santa Ana where I met my husband (married 47 years this June). He's from the south so we moved after he was discharged from the Marines and except for two years (where we taught in Florida) have lived in the same town where we went to and graduated from college. I graduated with an elementary education degree and taught for a while then went to work at the university. I am retired and still work part-time with the university in the environmental education office. My husband graduated with an agriculture education/business degree and was a grain inspector for about 20 years then we opened a café and he was chief cook and bottle washer. I took on the bookkeeper role so I was very popular on paydays. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful area near 2 lakes and a couple of rivers. Not the ocean but still not bad. Summers are always a blast. Our daughter was born in 1989 after 20 years of marriage (surprise!) and has kept us young. She is a 1st LT in the Army and plays the trumpet and has been in several university bands, marched with a Drum Corps, is a music/military science major/criminal justice major and is working on her master's degree in teaching English as a second language. Five years ago we added to our family by becoming guardians of a 16 year old, life is so much fun at that age we couldn't wait to go through it again ;). Both young ladies have flown the coop, living their lives and remembering us once in a while. As some of you may know, my father R.L. Platt, taught at Tustin High (civics) then helped create Saddleback CC and went to work there as an administrator. He passed in 1980, my brother in 2000, and my mother (who was a counselor at Santa Ana CC) in 2001... so all my ties to CA are now gone. I haven't been back since 2003 and still, to this day, miss the CA climate and remain California dreaming. One of my biggest memories of high school was sitting in Jack Clancey's senior English clas...Expand for more
s. He started a life-long love of writing for me. Through the years I have worked with young children and college students. I love their zeal for life and learning! It is a good thing since there are always a bunch of college students here at the house. Sometimes I feel like a house mother! Many are international students from Thailand, China, Japan, and Saudi Arabia; and I delight in their respect of their elders I love watching any kind of sports and am very vocal about it (just ask my daughter who neve fails to remind me that I am never loud except when there is a game on); love to read; do needlework; collect way to many things (again, my daughter says we live in a museum); do volunteer work; love my Wii; addicted to movies; would travel almost anywhere during the summer to see a Drum Corps show (and did, even went to the finals in Indianapolis); have an extended family of cats, dogs, turtles and fish; owned a cafe for 12 years (which I never care to do again); have survived cancer and am still walking (somewhat) after back surgery; and have totally enjoyed life along the way even with all its bumps. If you got this far in reading this I want to say, first that I'm impressed, and second thank you!! High school was exactly that, but because of some wonderful memories it made my life so much richer, and to have gone to school in California... that is every teenage dream. This old, but young at heart, lady really misses the beaches there! Funny where life takes you and I hope I'll continue to kept my sense of humor for the rest of my ride. May you continue to enjoy your ride too! Take care and if you still live near the ocean... take a walk on the beach for me, pick up a shell - who knows maybe it is me whispering in your ear. JeNeane aging gratefully, living life in wrinkles, my summer continues its' glowing, my winter covered in sparking crystals, and I am astounded that my eyes still reflect the colors of the world, capturing, to let free, the wings of time ©c.j.p.c. ~ 2011 'All truths are easy to understand once they are discoverd.
